New, Expanded Edition of Peace by Chocolate Marks Ten Years in Canada

The new, expanded edition of Peace by Chocolate: The Hadhad Family’s Remarkable Journey from Syria to Canada by Jon Tattrie has been released, marking the tenth anniversary of Peace by Chocolate.

Published on October 5, 2026, the updated book follows the Hadhad family beyond the events of the original edition. New chapters explore the growth of the company and the fall of the Assad regime in Syria, bringing readers up to date on a family whose life has changed considerably since finding a new home in Antigonish.

For readers discovering the book for the first time, it follows the family’s journey from Syria through Lebanon to Nova Scotia, where the support of a small community helped them rebuild. For those who already know the story, this edition answers the question of what happened next.

The launch was marked by two events in Nova Scotia, bringing Tareq and his family together with author Jon Tattrie and readers.

The Halifax launch took place at Halifax Central Library on Monday, October 5, at 6:30 p.m., with Bookmark supporting book sales. A second event followed at the Antigonish Heritage Museum on Thursday, October 8, with The Curious Cat Tea & Books as the local bookseller.

Returning to Antigonish gave the anniversary particular meaning. The community’s welcome is central to the book, and ten years later, its place in the family’s life is just as important. Both evenings offered an opportunity to share the new edition with the people who have supported Peace by Chocolate along the way.

Thank you to everyone who joined the launches, and to the venues and local booksellers who helped bring the book to readers.

The expanded edition can be ordered directly through the Peace by Chocolate website.
